Vintage Design
Beautiful set of 4 dining chairs designed by A.A. Patijn for Zijlstra in Joure. The model of these chairs comes from the Poly Z line, which was produced in the fifties and sixties of the last century. It was one of the first pieces of furniture that could be combined almost freely, assembled and disassembled independently. It was supposed to fit into any interior, especially small, post-war apartments. Patijn had the ambition to create a style that was in line with the Dutch functionalism of the 1950s, but with the gentleness of its decorative lines it became accessible to a wider audience than the avant-garde functionalist designs. Patijn was also the author of the book “Modern Interior”, in which he popularized, among others, the designs of Ray and Charles Eames and his contemporary Scandinavian designers. The Poly-Z line included very popular chairs, armchairs, but also extensive wardrobe and cabinet systems, tables and coffee tables.
Presented chairs were reupholstered and wooden frames were restored.
